Sandy Question: If I’m related to Nicholas and Robert, wouldn’t that make Rose, Henry Cockman’s biological daughter? -

Answer:  No.  1842 Henry Cockman and 1863 Alice Page had 10 children.  The DNA connection, in my opinion, comes via one of these 10 children.  It is possible it is from 1842 Henry.  My understanding and self taught education of DNA at a later date may aid in this area.  At this stage, I beleive the connection is via another child, due to 1863 Alice Pages circumstances of her working as a servant (Out of work) and family address.  I will add this paragraph to Rosettas profile page.

Time Line

1842 On 07 Jun 1842, Henry Cockman is born

1831 In 1831, Thomas Cockman is born (1842 Henrys brother).  Thomas marries 1844 - 1914 Caroline Maynard

1831 Thomas and 1844 Caroline have several sons and daughter.  One son is called 1886 - 1962 Henry Richard Cockman.

1891 - In 1891, the family were living at Dickinsons Yard, Ware, Hertfordshire, England and 1886 Henry can be seen aged 4 and at school.

1901 In the 1901 Census, Henry can be seen still living with his mother, one son and two sisters.  He is neither at school or working.  The family live at Cherry Tree Yard, 4, Amwell End, Ware, Ware Urban, Hertfordshire

1911 By 1911, he moes to 10 Garland Road Ware, Ware, Hertfordshire, England.  He is living with a family known as the Brown family and as a lodger.  Henry is a Cowman and the head of the house is John S Brown, who is also a Cowman.

Henry is seen to be born abt 1877 and is seen to be 24.  He is actually 23 (born 1886).  He is seen on the census as "Cowman" - Employment status "Worker 4".  Henry is seen as Single

John Brown is born abt 1868 in Ware.  He is seen to be aged 43 on the census.  John is seen to be employed as Own Account 6, indicating he owns his own business.  The industry he works in a "Milk Round".  My speculation is that Henry is employed by John and he is a lodger at Johns house.

Margaret A Brown (Maiden name 1876 Margaret Anne Currell)  was born abt 1876 in Karachi, India.  She is seen to be aged 35

They have several children aged between 1 and 14.

One of the children is 1902 Elizabeth Emma Brown, who marries 1892 Thomas Abbot.

1892 Thomas Abbott and 1902 Elizabeth (Brown) have children that have DNA connections to 1886 Henry Cockman.  These are living 1953 Robert Allen (Born from  1929 Millicent Abbot) and living 1960 Thomas Abbott (Born from 1937 Thomas Abbott.  A screen shot is seen below that may be better to save / download and zoom in to see the tree detail)

1902 Elizabeth being born on 30 Nov 1902, means that she was conceived around January 1902.  This would make 1886 Henry Cockman aged 16 when he sleeps with John Brown's wife 1876 Margaret Curreell (Who would have been aged 26)

As we can see 1886 Heny Cockman in the 1901 Census with his family and out of work, it implies he left home shortly after the 1901 Census for work with John Brown and worked with him for at least 10 years, as he can still be seen at his home and as a lodger in the 1911 Census.

Further comment:

I received communication from an Ancestry member with comments as follows:

"Hi my name is Alli  Irecently along with my mother had a couple of high matches with the cockman and currell families who also match each other. my mother was adopted in 1946 and her father had been an english soldier we believe her father is a brother or a nephew of elizabeth currell/brown we also believe that H R Cockman had more than one child with Margaret A Currell/Brown. elizabeth being one of them alli - My mothers two highest matches a grandson Andre cockman of Henry and a grandson of Elizabeth brown Thomas Abbott they both share DNA with each other also I have spoken to Thomas Abbott but his parents split when he was little and he doesn’t know much at all I will get my laptop out and have a look to see what they actually share in cms this is what they share with my mother so it would be quite a close match".

Links Alli sent were not avalible via Ancestry and we were left with a little more further speculation in this area.

In 1921 he is living with his wife Alice (Formerly Knight) at Sermel Mill, Buntingford, Westmill, Hertfordshire, England.  his profession is seen to be a Cowman on a farm.  His employer is W Feaness Esq Farmer

Henry & Alice have a daughter (Alice Ivy Cockman) who, when looking at her 1939 Census, was born on 11 November 1916

In 1939 White Horse Potter Street, Harlow, Epping R.D., Essex, England.  Henry states his date of birth is 05 November 1875.   This is not the White Horse Pub / Inn.  Someone else can be seen living at this pub a few lines further down the 1939 Census

Comments

In the 1939 Cesus, Alice date of birth is seen as 19th Oct 1888.  This is further clarified on her death records (Found here: https://www.gro.gov.uk/ )

Her son is born 22 Feb 1922 Henry William John Cockman and we can see using the link above, his mothers maiden name was Knight.  We therefore know this is Henry's wife.

Using the GRO link above, we can also see when 1922 Henry died and the same birth date is seen on his death GRO record.

It is unclear why 1886 Henry states his birth date to be on 05 Nov 1875.  Looking at the UK database, no Henry Cockman's were born in 1875, indicating it is not a different Henry Cockman
